Caucasian box braids-My experience

About a month or two ago I had box braids which I absolutely loved. In this post I'm going to talk about my experience with having box braids and about the process of having them done. It took ages of research before I found the right person to do box braids on my hair type. It cost £130 to have them put in and this included the price of the extensions. I had them done round the ladys house, which was good because it meant i could watch T.V to pass time, and in total the braiding took 10 and a half hours!

However if you're inpatient but want to have braiding done it will only take the same amount of time if you have the same hair texture as me and wish to have them the same length. Also the thickness of the individual braids effect the time taken. My braids were small and with the extensions added it left me with hair that ended nearly at my bottom, hence why it took so long to do. The first night of sleeping with box braids was difficult as I didn't know where to put all the hair, in the end I resulted to either parting my hair in two and having half lay one side half the other or putting my hair into a loose braid and then covering the top of my head with a scarf. When it came to washing your braids you only had to do this every 2 weeks, however I found if i left it this long I would start breaking out, and make sure you have plenty of free time afterwards to let your hair air dry as it takes a while and your hair will feel heavy.

Although you only have to wash your hair every two weeks it is recommended that you put oil over your scalp once or even twice a day. I used almond oil and a spray that the lady who braided my hair gave to me. In terms of styling there are so many hairstyles that you can do with box braids its amazing I simply typed into YouTube 'box braid hairstyles' and so many videos came up, just be careful not to overdo tightly pulling upwards hairstyles, limit these to about 3 a week. Taking my braids out unfortunately took nearly just as long as putting them in! 8 and a half hours *sigh*. When I took the braids out my hair had never felt better, the condition of my hair was amazing! My hair is still now about 2 months later in a better condition then it ever has been. My scalp however was not in such a great condition, I believe due to the weight of the extensions braided in with my hair it had ended up irritating my scalp leaving it tender and with some scabs. Now that's all gone though and I defiantly wish to get box braids again. I am hoping to get them before my holiday in July and this time round I want to get them with a mixture of different coloured blonde extensions that aren't as long and for the individual braids to be thicker. So after reading this post, would you ever get box braids?
