Fashion designers and fashion styles and trends are always looking back to fashion of the past to revamp the it looks and make them relevant once again, so I say why not do the same with fashion icons? Who says the fashion icon you look up to has to be around today? Here's a look back at some of the fashion icons from the 50's all the way to present day.
1950-Audrey Hepburn
Audrey brought about a simple and modest elegance to the way she dressed. How she dressed truly represented herself. At the time of her rise to fame she was thought of as boyish. She viewed herself as too skinny, she thought her feet were too big and she hated the bump on her nose. In reality she was the perfect package of imperfections and the definition of beauty really is not knowing that you are so special. I love looking to Audrey for fashion and beauty inspiration as her look is still relevant today and even adding in a touch of Audrey's style to your look can make it much more glamorous.

Audreys black dress from breakfast at Tiffany (shown in photo below) sold in auction for nearly half a million dollars.

1950- Marilyn Monroe
One of my all time favourite fashion icons has to be Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn had an electricity about her inner begin. She was a sex and fashion icon of her time and is still known as one today thanks to her blonde bombshell hair and killer curves. As an actress wanting to make her mark in Hollywood she dedicated time to perfecting her look.

She practiced make-up, applying different shades of lipstick to give herself a more plump looking pout, wore her outfits so tight she had to be sewn into them and even went as far as cutting half an inch off of one of her heels so that she had a sexy walk.
If you want to know more about the life of Marilyn Monroe an interesting documentary on her is BBC inside the body of Marilyn Monroe available to watch you-tube which is where I got my information from.

1960-Twiggy
Twiggy rose to stardom at the tender age of 17, she later became a super model. One of the worlds first. Her boyish short hair cut and long eyelashes defined fashion and beauty in the 70's. She was one of the worlds most famous faces, so famous her photo was encased in a time capsule and sent into space.. Twiggy was a household name across the glob in the 60's, an icon whose image graced the covers of Vogue, Tatler and even her own American publication Her Mod, Mod Teen World. Although she retired in the 70's she still models today for Marks and Spencers where she has her own fashion range.

1970-Blondie
The band Blondie was formed in 1974 and quickly made signer Debbie harry and fashion icon for her punk sense of style with her tight fitting clothes and bleached blonde hair. When Stephen Sprouse was her designer she commented on this being her most fashionable stage. Today she is regarded as even more fashionable although Debbie struggles to understand this saying her view towards fashion has not changed. She even still has her old stage outfits, the ones she says haven't rotted.

1980-Madonna
Madonna started showing the world her uniquely pieced together wardrobe when she formed the band emmy but before this she was training as a dancer. Her roommate at university said that she would give Madonna her old clothes and instantly regret it when Madonna made the outfits fashionable simple just by wearing them. The first time she met Madonna she said her t-shirt was ripped up like it had been by purposely cut. Her dance teacher also mentioned how Madonna walked through the doors on the first day of term wearing a t-shirt that was so ripped the only way it was staying pieced together was through the safety pin attaching the two pieces at the back together. It was also thrown over only one of her shoulders, looking at her that day she knew she would go somewhere. Her fashion sense was described as thrift shop chic.

She later went onto her own solo career in the music industry where designers like Jean Paul gaultier helped her piece together her most famous outfits such as the now-iconic conical Jean Paul Gaultier bustier.

1990-Kate moss
Kate moss worked as a freelance model, having to borrow money from her mum who eventually got fed up and told her to look for a 'real job', for 2 years before hitting her big break with Calvin Klein. After that she was flung into stardom and became a fashion icon thanks to her small frame, wide set eyes and big lips. Kate Moss made fashion in the 90's more daring as well as simplistic. One of the most famous photos of her from this era is her wearing a sheer silver dress to an Elite Model Agency Party for the Look of the Year contest in 1993.

Kate Moss today still appears on the cover of vogue every so often but is partially retired.
2007 to present day-the Kardashians and the Jenners
Love them or hate them you cant deny that the Kardashians and the Jenners have certainly become fashion icons since Keeping up with the Kardashains first aired 14 Oct 2007.They even have there own fashion shop called Dash.
Back when the show first aired Kim was the main fashion icon with people all around the world fascinated by her behind.

Lately the Jenners have taken over the spotlight with the youngest Kendal and Kylie making there mark on the fashion industry. Kendal is now a super model having modeled for Calvin Klein all the way to Victoria secret. As for Kylie, she has her own lip stick range thanks to her new enhanced lips. Although there was much complaints about her collection regarding the wand quality and slow delivery process her lip kits still sell out in about 10 minutes and she comes out with a new set of colours about every month or so. As well as the lip kits she also has her own hair extension range with Bellami hair. The sisters also have there own clothing line called Kendal and Kylie forever new which came out last year.

Yes its a wig, I couldn't believe it either!
So regardless of what you think of them they certainly are making there mark on the fashion and beauty industry. Personally I love Kylie's fashion sense and I am slightly captivated by her forever changing hair thanks to her wigs and extensions, I would absolutely love if she came out with her own wig collection. Now that I would certainly buy. So come on King Kylie, what are waiting for!
Who was your favourite fashion icon from throughout the century?
